Day Training

Walter Lawson Children's Home on-site Day Training program provides year-round developmental training services to adult participants in a newly constructed, highly specialized environment. The Day Training program is licensed and monitored by the Illinois Department of Human Services (DHS) and employs instructors, trainers, nurses and therapy staff.

The mission of the Day Training program at Walter Lawson Children's Home is to protect the interests and rights of their consumers/stakeholders and their parents/guardians to guarantee that everything possible is done to promote accessibility in a least restrictive environment. We design programs and services that not only promote both functional living skills and pre-vocational abilities, but lessen the impact of the profound developmental, physical and medical limitations of our participants.

Day Training participants benefit from individualized service plans designed by the multi-disciplinary team which focus on skill development in the following domains:
  • Pre-Vocational
  • Domestic
  • Community
  • Music Enrichment
  • Recreation/Leisure
  • Therapeutic Positioning/Range of Motion Programs
  • Hydrotherapy
