On Sept. 13, 2013, the 7th Annual Golf Play Day was held at the Rockford Country Club. This event was the creation of one of our parents, Joe Pendergrass. This year's event was our most successful year thus far, raising over $25K. Though the basic needs of each individual are met through state funding, the proceeds from the play day event provide therapeutic equipment and other items to assist in caring for the children and young adults.
The event consisted of 18 holes of golf as well as games and prizes on the course for 144 golfers. After golfing, on what couldn't have been a more beautiful day, participants enjoyed a great dinner at the Rockford Country Club. During dinner, silent and live auctions were held selling a variety of themed baskets, artwork and vacations.
Baskets for the silent auction were provided by family, friends and staff of the Walter Lawson Children's Home as well as many local companies. "We are so thankful for everyone who came out to support this event," said Melissa Thornbloom.
